What are the main tips to prepare your body for a race or a marathon?

  • On a physical point of view, being able to prioritise quality over quantity is extremely important. Know when to rest and how to build the endurance you need by going for regular runs and increase your time little by little. Make sure you do not skip longer runs too often, and take good care of resting your body with good nights of sleep in order to be ready for your next training session.
  • Stretching is also essential at the start and at the end of your running sessions. It will help prevent from catching any injuries.
  • Know how to eat and drink well. Stay hydrated during your running sessions, without overdoing it. Be sure as well to eat food with high nutritional value such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, whole grains, lean meats, fish and dairy – and prioritise good carbs on the day before your long runs or during the few days prior to the marathon.
  • Prior the big day, it is important to set up a correct preparation, physically but also psychologically. Having a positive mindset will help grandly in achieving your goal which, in that case, is passing the finishing line.

How can physiotherapy help in preparation of a marathon?

Regular sports massages before the marathon and after your training sessions will help you recover faster and improve greatly your performance. Our physiotherapists & osteopaths will be able to provide the right massages and treatments in order to stop any injury from appearing.

After the marathon, our physiotherapists and osteopaths can help manage your recovery by using deep tissue massages, circulatory massages and specific stretching. This will prevent your body, muscles and joints from any damage.
